My first encounter with solid shampoo!

Monday, May 16, 2016

My quest for an affordable, cruelty-free and natural shampoo that would leave my hair feeling silky and fresh for a couple of days was dreadful. Most natural shampoos made my hair limp, greasy or stringy so I just kept browsing the web for advice about decent cruelty-free shampoos. Although I came across some positive reviews on solid shampoos, I never really considered them as an option because I was convinced that no solid shampoo could work as efficiently as a solid one to take care of my long locks.

When the Belgian webshop SeBio asked me if I wanted to try some of their products, I felt like a kid in a candy store. Their range of certified natural and organic cosmetics is impressive, so you should definitely check it out. The solid shampoos from Secrets de Provence piqued my interest because of their ingredient list: no sulfates and thus no SLS and all ingredients are of natural origin (20.5% of the ingredients is derived from organic farming). Although I was still skeptical towards solid shampoos, my curiosity won and I decided to try one for a review.

Solid shampoos are actually a lot easier in use than I initially thought: you just rub the shampoo ring over your wet hair until you work up a good lather and then you simply massage your scalp and locks with the foam. Easy peasy! Another advantage of shampoo bars are their compact size - not another big bottle I have to jam in my beauty cabinet but a small ring that could fit just about anywhere. It's also perfect for travelling by air plane by the way! The Secrets de Provence shampoo ring came with a special holder you can glue to your wall, but I didn't use it. I just felt like I didn't really need it. And I was scared to death glue stains would remain on the bathroom wall of our rental house after removing it.

After washing my hair with this solid shampoo, my hair feels as clean and soft as if I would have washed it with a liquid variant, so I had to adjust my opinion about solid shampoos! They are easy to use, compact and this one is also very budget friendly: the Secrets de Provence shampoo ring only costs €6.50 and is equivalent to 2 bottles of 250 ml liquid shampoo. I will definitely repurchase this solid shampoo or the variant for oily hair.

Tell me about your experiences with solid shampoos! Do you have favorites that I should definitely try?

Lots of love,
Lieselot

  1. Your good knowledge and kindness in playing with all the pieces were very useful. I don’t know what I would have done if I had not encountered such a step like this.
